Description
In the HPMC E15 “E15” indicates to a specific viscosity ,15 mPa.s at 2% concentration. It is a visco-elastic polymer, semi-synthetic & inert. It is extensively used in the sectors like pharma, cosmetics and food industries because of having various properties like film-forming, thickening and binding properties.
It is water soluble and does not react to other substances. It is soluble in cold water and forms a clear and glutinous solution. In tablet production, it acts as an adhesive which helps to enhance the hardness and stability of the tablet.
Characteristics of HPMC E15:
- HPMC E15 is not naturally obtained, it is produced from cellulose. It is also known as chemically inert because of having property of not reacting with other substances.
- It has the property to become in both states which is known as Visco-Elastic Polymer because it can flow like a liquid, and it can also become in solid state.
- It is soluble in cold water and forms a clear and glutinous solution. It is to be noted that it is not soluble in hot water and other solvents.
- It is also known for its film forming properties, when it is diluted in water, it forms a crystal clear and flexible film which can be used for coating for tablets.

Applications:
