Description
Advantages of Polypropylene Fiber (PP Fiber)
Polypropylene Fiber, also commonly known as PP fiber, is a 100 % virgin Polypropylene. It is a synthetic fiber as it is made from Polypropylene, which is a kind of plastic. It is highly used in construction industries in various cementious mixtures.
These fibers are lightweight, thin, and very easy to use when they mix in the concrete, it enhances the durability, safety, and overall strength of the concrete structure.
PP Fibers boosts concrete strength by reducing cracks, fire resistance and delivering long-lasting performance of the structure. It is available in various sizes like 6 mm, 12 mm, and 20 mm fit for multiple applications.
It is used for reinforcement, which is 100 % organic, eco-friendly, and biodegradable. PP Fiber is tough and it can bear harsh environments. This fiber helps reduce the entrance of water and provides a tough surface with fewer bleeding holes.
It increases cohesion and minimizes plastic shrinkage cracking giving a harder, durable, and superior abrasion resistance. It provides even distribution when mixed in concrete, creating a matrix-like structure and reducing sedimentation.
It is cost-effective, and there is no need for an additional secondary steel mesh require as the positioning is done easily.
6mm PP fiber for construction in medium or low-strength concrete reduces water absorption and enhances resistance to freeze /thaw damages which results in increased durability.
Use of PP fiber helps in improved tendon protection by capitalizing the material properties to achieved greater strength, durability and flexibility.
The use of 6mm PP fiber for construction helps in the prevention of mortar split by minimizing the percentage of cracking and splitting.
Dosage, Method of Application and Storage
Dosage:
1. Crack resistance is the recommended dosage of 0.9 kg/m3 fibers to cement mortar would be sufficient.
2. Reinforcement and seepage-resistant applications 1.8kg/ m3 would be good.
Method of Applications:
There is no need for any changes to be made in the ratio of sand, cement, and aggregates. One should put all aggregate, cement , additives and fibers then proper stirring is required by mixing enough water and this stirring can be extended for 2-3 minutes for the compound to mix properly and completely.
One can also add cement and other aggregates in advance by adding water on-site before the construction work starts.
Storage:
It is recommended that the container should be kept closed in the original packing and it should be kept in cool and dry place to avoid humidity.
Health and Safety
PP fibers are non-hazardous and environment friendly
